Happy 6th Birthday e107!!
Published on 2008-9-30 18:04:49 by streaky
Today marks the 6th year since the project was officially registered on SourceForge, although the project did start earlier, this date it seems fitting to choose as much as any other day for the official birthday of the project! Over the past 6 years of the project we have seen three major version number releases, 0.5, 0.6 and the most recent, 0.7. The community has grown and thrives with each release and with over 26000 registered users on e107.org alone. The forum has been active for the last 4 and a half years and has accumulated over 155000 posts - an achievement in itself!

The devs are continuing to push the boundaries as well as provide backwards compatibility as much as possible while providing a transparent and efficient development process. The community continues to support itself with feedback, suggestions and helping other users via IRC (#e107 on the freenode network) and in the forums.

Here's to plenty more years and releases to come! Happy Birthday e107!!

New e107 release - 0.7.13
Published on 2008-9-29 4:50:27 by steved
A bit like buses, E107 releases sometimes come in pairs - usually because a bug which affects a fair number of people has crept in under the radar of those who regularly update from CVS.

More to the point, on this occasion there's a fix for a security vulnerability which can potentially affect those with certain server configurations. Thanks to Fanat1k for finding this one.

Relatively few files have changed, so you're recommended to apply the full update as soon as
possible.

You can get the new version here: http://e107.org/edownload.php

New version released - 0.7.12
Published on 2008-8-26 9:00:01 by McFly
The newest build of e107 has finally been released. No it's not a 0.8 release, but another in the 0.7.x tree.

This version builds upon the proven stability of the 0.7 tree by adding a slew of bugfixes.
Yes, there are a few security updates, so you will want to upgrade as soon as possible!

For those of you with critical production systems, please wait a few days for any problems that are reported with the new version, you never know what I may have messed up in creating the builds

You can get the new version here: http://e107.org/edownload.php

The changelog can be found here: https://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?group_id=63748&release_id=622017

I know many people are wondering where 0.8 is. Well, I'm wondering the same thing. Many of us devs have run into real life issues and has slowed down the developments, but I assure you it has not stopped.

Username/password problems at these site should now be resolved - your e107.org details are still the ones you should use.

For anyone who may have got banned from too many logon attempts - all of these bans have been removed from both sites.

Spring is here for the Wiki
Published on 2008-7-23 1:02:32 by steved
Maybe a bit late, or a bit early (depending which hemisphere you're in) but the Wiki is going to get a spring clean.

Hunter has agreed to lead on this thankless task, so if you're willing to help, or you've got any thoughts on how the wiki should be organised, now's the time to speak up - in the comments here for simple suggestions, and in the forum for anything that might lead to some discussion.

And what better time to create that missing page in the wiki, with all the information you had to learn the hard way? Or expand on the information that's already there - add examples, maybe.

The wiki has helped a lot of people since it was started - lets make it even better.

Sourceforge.net 2008 Community Choice Awards
Published on 2008-6-7 17:16:33 by steved
Hey! You! Are you sick of letting the big hardware companies, tech blogs, and mainstream media decide which open source projects deserve widespread attention? So are we. That's why we created the SourceForge.net Community Choice Awards, and we need your nominations!

Based on your nominations, ten finalists will be chosen in each category. The winners will receive our coveted award robot, be showered with praise, and will have vastly increased reputation in the city or town of their choice.

So nominate now, because there's no better way to tell the world that your favorite open source project can beat up your friend's favorite open source project. Make your voice heard!

So go and NOMINATE NOW (you have to log in at SourceForge to nominate a project)

e107 Themes launched
Published on 2008-3-7 2:57:39 by McFly
After several months of discussion and life getting in the way e107 themes is finally launched!

The site intends on being the greatest resource for e107 themes. Featuring excellent tools for both theme hunters & developers.

The site is very much a sister site to e107 plugins using the same download management system.

The new site is now launched & available so you can check it out here.
While there aren't any themes there yet (unless someone has uploaded one by now!) please continue checking back as we hope they will be getting added on a regular basis.

Note: The site shares the same user database as e107.org so you do NOT need to sign up for a new account if you already have one for e107.org.

e107forge.org Officially opens!
Published on 2008-2-26 7:13:16 by streaky
e107forge.org has been put in place to provide a single, easy-to-access location for e107 developers, plugin writers and theme coders to store and keep track of their projects, code and releases while working in conjunction with plugins.e107.org.

So what's the difference between plugins.e107.org and e107forge.org?
The difference is the audience, while plugins.e107.org is aimed entirely at the end user who wants to be able to find a plugin easily and isn't necessarily interested in the code behind the plugin. On the flipside, e107forge.org is all about the code and the developers, SVN and CVS access is available while providing a fully featured, easy-to-manage project page and allowing coders to collaborate together to work on a plugin. Rather than one developer writing a plugin and then another user making code changes and re-submitting the plugin, we can have collaborative developers drawn together by a particular plugin.

If you're a developer wanting to get your code or project online but need some help along the way e107forge.org is here to help. If you're a theme developer who's keen to have a versioning system take care of the headaches of making minute changes here and there, e107forge.org is for you. We can provide SVN and CVS versioning control as well as bug trackers / issues / feature requests etc. It really is up to you when it comes to which features you want to use.
